That New Yorker article is what led me to start reading HN. I don't work in IT and am not a hacker by any means, but the quality of the discussions has made it one of my favorite places on the Internet. My deepest thanks to dang and to all of the contributors.

Private group chats, unfortunately. It’s hard to have a public one stay high quality.

Try paid membership forums. People tend to behave better, and have an interest in keeping the community in order, when they spend money.


what kind? im sure you're not talking about onlyfans, but are you referring to the comments sections of paid magazine subscriptions?

Various newspaper and magazine sites, and the Internet Archive. No other discussion or conversation sites.
